Worldbuilding and set dressing.
A few of the more successful levels I had the pleasure of set dressing. Had a lot of fun taking them from Grey box levels to fully flushed out playable environments. Tried to utilize visual story telling such as fallen rubble over a collapsed mine and discarded boots near an enemy spawn point. I hoped to ground the environments and give them a real sense of place and also establish a sense of history and lore.
